"I finished this book in one sitting—it was that good. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who enjoys military stories. The writing has a way of pulling you in and bringing back memories of your own experiences, making it very relatable.
The story feels like a nonstop adventure following Gary as he navigates brand new experiences after leaving his hometown, to several gut-wrenching, heart sinking events that really stay with you and highlight the realities and risks that come with military life.
Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates powerful military memoirs and real-life adventure."  - Kimberly

"I don’t even know where to start. The stories in this book are crazy good. What got me was the era it’s set in — all of these massive things are happening in the world and yet here’s this one man’s story unfolding right alongside all of it, and it’s just as amazing a piece of history as anything else going on at the time.
There’s a scene where Gary, this small town Wisconsin kid, ends up in a restaurant in Genoa, Italy nervously poking at a plate of ravioli he’s never seen before in his life. Never even had it. And in that one little moment you just feel how big the world got for him. It hit me more than I expected.
This is one of those books that reminds you that ordinary people lived extraordinary lives that never made the history books. Mike Windsor’s debut is something special and I really hope it finds the audience it deserves."  - Seth
